Flying Kites

I've been down since I've had two teeth pulled and had to miss some school and work. I believe I have a dry socket, but won't get any relief until Monday when I have an appt. Anyhow, I woke up and had to go to school for a mock practical for A and P. After I got out, I realized what a wonderful day it was so I stopped by Walmart to buy some kites for the kids. When I got home we took them to the marina and flew kites...or shall I say Dustin and I flew kites. It was great. The kids ran around trying to catch the kites and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunatly the wind quit, but we decided to take a walk.

It was great until we walked up the dam wall and I panicked. I have a problem with heights I've realized. I can go up, but I can't go back down. So Dustin helped me up onto the road and away from the scary dam hill. What a man! I got a great pic of Noah and Livi holding hands. Oh how I love my family. Even though I was hurting really bad, seeing my family have fun made my day. :)

Oatmeal Breakfast Hearts

I thought I'd make the kids some oatmeal bars and they came out great. I altered the recipe and made two kinds. These were very easy and very healthy!

Here's the recipe for version one of Oatmeal Breakfast Hearts:

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups oats
2 cups unsweetened applesauce
3 ripened bannanas (not in picture...sorry!)
1/2 cup dried cherries (or you can use rasins, cranberries, etc)
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Add all ingredients and stir until mixed very well.

On a nonstick pan, place a cookie cutter (I choose hearts because they're so cute!) and filled it up to the top with the mixture. Smoosh it flat and then lift it slowly up.

Repeat until you fill up the cookie pan.

Bake on 450 degrees for about thirty minutes. They'll be golden brown and not sticky. Once cooled, you can either eat it like it is or add a little sweetness to it by making frosting...
Frosting:
Mix together 1/4 cup powdered sugar and about 2-3 teaspoons milk until you have a thick frosting consistancy. I actually used evaporated milk since it's all that I had and it came out really good. Since I used bannanas, I added a few drops of bannana extract to the frosting mixture.

Pour mixture into a bottle or use a ziplock bag and snip one of the corners. Go diagnally across each heart to make a design. The less you use the better since this is technically a healthy snack. :) Once frosting sets, simply wrap each one and store in a cool dry place for up to a week. Hope you enjoy!

For version two, I did the same thing except I used 2 cups of peach flavored applesauce and 2 diced peach cups (instead of bannanas). Follow the exact same directions otherwise.

Valentines Day

So, Noah picked out some cupcakes and candy bars for his class for Valentines Day. I so wanted to make something homemade, but I had three things due at school at the same time and I couldn't waste any time on making homemade treats. It makes me so sad sometimes when I can't be the mom I want to be. Hopefully when I do get out of school, I'll be able to have more time.

I made Dusitin a special bouquet since he got me a beautiful bouquet. I had intended to get some beef jerky and manly goodies, but I ran out of time. He said that it was the best valentines gift ever since we had been together! How great is that to hear? :)

I have this picture hanging up from when I worked at Home Care Network around 2006 and we got a sweet Christmas Gift and got to stay at the Gaylord Texan. It's just such a cute picture that I thought I'd share. Makes me feel more in love with him every time I pass by it. He looks just like his picture, but I noticed I looked like every other girl the guy drawed. Really cool. :) Everyone should have a characature done at one time or another!

Noah's 3rd Birthday!

Before Noah's birthday I got him a little birthday badge and sent him to daycare with mini cupcakes and punch. He was very excited. When he got to daycare, all the kids saw the cupcakes and Noah told them that it was his birthday and they all started telling him happy birthday. It was very cute.

After daycare, I started getting things ready for the big day on Saturday. Noah of course had to help, so I let him put the candy in the piniata.

On the big day, my sister came over and helped me do the last minute touches. We had taco bites, strawberries stuffed with cheesecake, cream chees pinwheels, and ham/turkey cream cheese pickle rollups. I also made cupcake cones which I decorated with regular can frosting. I'm telling you, Pinterest is my best friend when it comes to ideas for parties and stuff. :)

I thought I'd do a little something special with his cake....it was a little lopsided, but it was what was on the inside that counted.

All the kids got a goody bag gave to them by Noah. Inside was several fun things...one of them was bubbles. So we all went outside and blew a few bubbles while everyone finished up snacking

Finally the big moment came to blow out his candle. Noah got really shy when we all started singing to him.

And here's the surprise inside!!! :) Also courtesy of Pinterest!

Noah had a blast opening all his presents.

After presents we all went outside again to hit the piniata.

Noah and his friend discussing dividing the candy. :)

Noah was either filthy or sticky. I couldn't tell which, but he was having too much fun to ruin it by washing him off.

All and all, it was a wonderful birthday. We all had a lot of fun!
