First Day

Well, things seemed to go pretty good today. I'm wore out though. I got there at 6:45am and was escorted through a maze in order to get to the locker room so I could change into scrubs. I'm not kidding about the maze. You litterally have to go through tons of doors and hallways in order to get to your locker. If you mess up and turn the wrong way, you dead end and have to turn around. It's actually kinda funny. I get to wear light blue scrubs and they're free!! I didn't have to go out and buy them which is really awesome. I lucked out on that. I trained with a girl named Laura, who seemed pretty nice. I really feel like I caught on good, but there is a lot to learn.

Fireworks!

My sis Mary wanted me and Dustin to come over and help put her pool up that she had ordered online. My other sis Crystal and her husband Jody were coming to help too. I wouldn't say that we helped that much. Dustin just kinda stood around while Jody and Mike put it up. I guess if supervising is a job, then Dustin did a fine job at it. I on the otherhand stayed inside for the most part with my two kiddos and Crystal's kids. My nephew Dalton (who is seven years old)is so obsessed with TV. Let's just say that if the house was burning down, he probably wouldn't notice. I was playing with him and said that his brain was going to turn to mush if he kept watching cartoons, but I don't think he bought it. I'm glad that Bub doesn't watch tv. Every now and then he'll dance to a song or crawl up in our laps when he gets sleepy and just stare at the tv (which I don't think he's really paying attention to it). I agree with what my psychologist friend Roxanne said...she made a valid point that ADD is caused by kids watching the super busy cartoons for ten minutes and then there is a break for a minute or two, then back to crazy colors and sounds flashing on the tv, therefore causing kids not to be able to handle certain situations but for a limited period of time. I see what she's talking about because Dalton is a prime example of that. Sometimes, it would be the easy way out to let your kid sit in front of the TV to keep them busy, but in the long term, coming from a known couch potatoe myself, it's just best to limit the TV or not watch it all together. It started raining right before we left and we all tried to get the pool liner up while it was raining. It was actually kinda fun.

We had to leave at five o'clock because we had to get to Dustin's Aunt Jackie's house to have our Annual Firework celebration. Despite leaving late from Jacksonville, we actually got to her house at seven on the dot and no one was there yet. Personally I like being early, but Dustin hates it. We drove around for a few minutes and came back and as soon as we parked, here came the convoy of people. We had our traditional spread of sandwiches and chips, the always favorite cheese dip, and something new...sweet pickles. They were yummy by the way. I didn't tell Dustin until later, but I had asked for the recipe and as it turns out, there's a five pound bag of sugar that goes into the mix. Wow, that's a lot of sugar. Dustin's cousin Josh brought his girlfriend to the event and it got me to thinking about my first time to meet the family. It was so nerve racking. Dustin and me had been together for about two or three years and everyone was shocked and happy to finally meet me. Rodney (a.k.a. Festus) started in on me right away and has picked on me to this day, but I'm finally figuring out how to talk crap back at him. Tonight was great. I was popping off smart remarks left and right. The family was in an uproar because before I had kids, I would just sit there and be all shy, but now I mix right along with them. It feels so good to have family. I'm especially glad to be a part of the Melton klan because they are so awesome. It's nice to feel like I belong.

Hanging Around

I'm trying to enjoy my days off before I start my new job. Over the last few days I've been having mock photo shoots with my babies trying to get the perfect picture. Today, I put Olivia and Noah up on the couch and started snapping away.I didn't realize how much I was into photography until now. Ever since I had Noah, I've enjoyed taking pictures, but now with this new camera, I find every reason to take a picture. I'm probablly not going to start my own photography business, but I would like to pursue this hobby a little more. It's really fun!

Whew!

Today Dustin and me were running around like chickens with our heads cut off. We got the kids to daycare, then headed to Tyler. Because I was on the Employee Council at RSH, I decided it would only be right to finish up handling the organization of the Employee Picnic that was going to take place tonight at 5:30pm. I was put in charge of buying door prizes and Game prizes and I took it upon myself to organize where everyone was supposed to be when the time came to start the event. Here's how things went: We went to Academy first, then Walmart, a small lunch break at Cheddars, a quick trip to the Dollar Tree, one more quick trip to Academy, picked the kids up at daycare, then the bad news came.......the picnic was canceled!!!!!!!! Say that again??? Yes, canceled due to a possible thunderstorm. I was really looking forward to the picnic because I wanted to see how all my planning worked out and I wanted to see a few of my coworkers one last time. Anyhow, the plan is to have the event on Monday. Fingers crossed that it goes as planned. I don't know if I will be able to go because I need to get up early on Tuesday so I can get to Mother Frances on time. We'll see. :)
